John B. Main is a Halifax-based blues and rockabilly musician. He plays piano and guitar, and he sings as well.
At 14 years old, John discovered Joe Murphy and the Water Street Blues Band, which changed the trajectory of his life. He knew that blues was his true musical love. Over the next few years, he discovered a love of rockabilly and rock'n'roll music, listening to artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and, of course, Elvis Presley.
Today, John plays with his own band and in other bands. The most notable of these bands are Joe Murphy and the Water Street Blues Band and the outlaw country and rock band The 51’s.
In September of 2022, Main was in Joe Murphy and The Water Street Blues Band for the Maritimes to Memphis Blues Challenge, and the band won. They competed in the 2023 International Blues Challenge, where they got to play on the stage at B.B King’s Blues Bar on Beale Street.
In September of 2023, John won the Maritimes to Memphis Blues Challenge with his own band, John B. Main And His Blues Kings, getting him to return to Memphis in 2024 to compete in the International Blues Challenge.
John has two albums available to buy. His most recent one, "Blues on Main Street," is available on CD and on streaming platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify. His first album, "I've Got The Blues," is only available on CD.
John appreciates his audience and his fans. Talking to him, you'll realize immediately that John is a shy and quiet person, but he loves to play for people and to engage his audience. If you ever happen to hear blues and rockabilly music coming from a bar or restaurant in Nova Scotia, stop in. It just might be John, and he would love to play some tunes for you!
